Dear Stephinitely,

I'm on the hunt for a fabulous pair of shoes to wear on my wedding day -- and beyond. No dyable satin sandals, please! The only thing traditional about my dress is that it happens to be white. It's based on a vintage 1950s day dress, but not the poofy-tea length variety. This one is a fitted sheath that hits just at the knee, and I'm thinking a pair of pumps with a vintage sensibility and a peep-toe would help show off my gams. Maybe an ankle strap? Chunky heel? Help! I'm willing to spend a little bit more because I know I'll wear a beautiful shoe many times over, but I don't think I can manage more than 400 clams, and that would have to be a helluva shoe.

I Do!

I love the bold structure and fabric of that first pair. Wow! It might be a little too dark & heavy beneath a white dress, but maybe not. there could be some real potential, especially with a pair of vintage 1950s b/w polka dot gloves I just e-purchased.

These styles are all gorgeous, thank you! And how did you know I love yellow shoes?

perhaps these wet your wedding whistle?

alrighty let's try again, so we know what you don't want. this is good. i'm sending another round of flashy footwear. i really, reaaaallly love this first shoe... and the designer Franziska Hubener is absolutely delightful. when i saw this pair in her showroom, i was utterly drawn to them. they stand alone. a printed-silk upper and solid stone embellishments on the vamp. you may leave the groom for them! i've not been able to find her shoes online, but if you like i'll help you search!
Franziska Hubener

this pair from the design team at shannon brittis downright pretty in their periwinkle blue damask and flowered top. should you do the up-du and '50s style make-up, these might be nice. too prissy?
Shannon Britt

our final installment comes from jeanne jarvaise and while a little less dressy, their shoes are touted as "comfort couture," and they aim the please. this pair comes in different color-ways. not flashy, but oh so smart. your groom will be able to fly you around the dance floor, and you'll keep up!

are we getting somewhere? i'm also thinking yellow. you like?

fifties-inspired footwear

DCfornow,
sounds like you've been scouring the net for some nifty fifties footwear. i think for under $400 hundred, we can get you glowing on your big day. i didn't gather whether or not you're looking for something white, or something equally wedding-y but with more sass? if money were no object, i think this pair from giuseppe zanotti, style E80056, might be perfect. they have the peep-toe you're looking for, and a pretty ornament on the toe, with a 3 3/4" heel height. $654

now for more eco-friendly (that's short for economically-friendly) footwear, here's a pair from same genius giuseppe zanotti which are on sale! at $268, style E7227, while satin, feature a peep-toe with a shimmering button detail, and with a 3" heel, and should prove easy to navigate in.

i know you said no dyeables, but you said sandals, not pumps. i really like the toe of this shoe from touch ups. they're sort of a 4" sling-back with a pump twist. at $99 they're worth checking out. zappos has free shipping to (AND FROM) so you have time to sample.

for a more tailored look, here's a pair from valea firenze at nordstrom, "caroline" for $218. nordstrom has a rather large selection of bridal shoes. though these are totally leather, because they're constructed of premium italian leathers, they look buttery soft.

thanks for the shoe-shout. let me know if i'm on the right track. it took me more than an hour to come up with just these four, so i feel for you sole sister!

so for fun, here's some dus for you.

for another bride . . .

for another bride . . . those would be perfect, I'm sure. White satin just doesn't do it for me. I want something I can wear again and think fondly of the day they made their debut. Something with color, pattern, pizazz! They're out there, somewhere, and maybe it will just be a "I'll know it when I see it" sort of experience. Thanks for the ideas, though!
