Significant Sights:

• Salvatore Ferragamo Museum – located in the Palazzo Spini Feroni

• Accademia (Academy of Fine Arts) – Michelangelo’s Statue of David

• Palazzo Vecchio and Galleria degli Uffizi (Uffizi Galery) – housing the world’s finest collection of Italian Renaissance Art (Michelangelo, DaVinci and Botticelli)

• Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (The Duomo), The Battistero di San Giovanni (St. John’s Baptistry) with Gates of Paradise - by Ghiberti (which took 21 years to complete)

Shopping:

• For leather goods – Via dei Tornabuoni where you’ll find Ferragamo, Gucci, Versace and Giorgio Armani

• For antiques - Via Maggio - some “objets d'art” are from the 16th century

Ponte Vecchio – perhaps most famous (and wealthiest) Old Bridge in the world

The Shoes:

• Salvatore Ferragamo, from south of Italy, became famous in the 1920s in the United States when he made shoes for the famous actresses of the time: Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford and Bettye Davis, among others. He was known for his use of lively color. Perhaps most seen shoe was the one made for Judy Garland in 1938, inspired by Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
